Hello all,

it has recently been brought to my attention that I haven’t blogged for sometime…..so here is my attempt to rectify that.

I have a number of updates. Firstly, I am now the proud owner of a PS3. After lenghty conversations on whether or not I should purchase the item I decided that I should treat myself. It was really more a matter of money than anything else. It all started on the weekend last. Jakub burst into my room to inform me of a deal from Tescos for that very weekend only. 25% back on all purchases with your clubcard. So, this meant that if I spent 400 on it, I would get 100E back in vouchers which I would use daily in any case. So, I would really be getting the device for 300E. I thought it was a sweet deal. Then as we set out to find a Tescos which actually had some in stock, our search failed. So, when we were in Dundrum Town Center I decided to look in Game for the sake of getting an idea what the prices were like. It seemed that they had pre-owned PS3 for some 359.99E with one free game (choice MGS4). Since, this looked like a more likely way of obtaining one that weekend (because I was in a gaming mood) I inquired further. Sadly none were available this side of and including town. But, I found one in the “Northside Shopping Center”. As our initial search had taken most of the day, collection was to take place the following day. Jakub suggested cycling to the destination…..I was reluctant to say the least, but he gave me them old puppy dog eyes and I could only say yarp. So, while I was at the store I also picked up GTA IV, an added bonus. I have been encouraged to also purchase COD4 by Jonas1981 and Eugene’s Beard (you know who you are), so I’ll keep you updated on that.

I have taken to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along-blog like a fiend!!! So, I’ll just say,

“Destroying the status quo, because…..the status….is NOT….quo!”

Finally, work work work. I still have quite a number of weeks left, unlike a number of my classmates. I should be finished the first week of September. Progress is coming along well. For those of you who don’t have a clue what I have been doing and still think “he’s doing something with LiDAR”. I’ll update you. I have been developing a database for academic awards applicable to the staff of UCD. Mostly concentrating on the front-end which will allow UCD admin to handle and update new awards and such. In addition the site which will be apart of the UCD research portal, will include a search and browsing tools, as well as criteria updates and nomination deadline updates sent via Email. Right now the site is nearing completion with some loose ends to tie up in both the criteria alerts section and the java code for deadline updates. After the beta is all set, it will be demoed on a department and refined.
